Research

  • Philosophy of the 17th and 18th century as well as the first half of the 20th century
  • Epistemology, Philosophy of Language and Philosophy of Mind
  • Especially: Descartes, Leibniz, Spinoza, Locke, Berkeley, Hume, Reid, Kant, Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Frege, Russell, Moore, Wittgenstein, Ryle, Austin

Current research projects concern questions regarding the relations between ideas, pictures and metaphors in theories of ideas of the early modern philosophy; the concept of res cogitans with regard to the self-knowledge of the thinking subject; Berkley argumentation of idealism. One further project has a focus on the conflict between the assumption of the first-person authority and certain sceptic and externalistic positions in epistemology and philosophy of language.
